I have most of the other Gerber BG knives just because of their excellent quality and also very specifically made for survival. I have Spyderco, Kershaw, many Victorinox Swiss Army knives in all shapes and sizes, Ka-Bar, and high end throwing knives as well as the Gerber BG line of knives. For those that cannot decide on what FOLDING knife to buy here are my humble recommendations:

1. Everyday carry small knife- Spyderco Delica/Endura folding knife
2. Tactical weapon - Cold Steel Recon 1 Folding knife or Spyderco Paramilitary 2
3. Mobile utility tools/survival - Victorinox Swiss Army Knives(take your pick from the hundreds that may fit your needs)
4. Survival/Weapon knife - Gerber Survival folding Knife
5. Inexpensive everyday carry - Smith and Wesson Extreme OPS Tanto folding knife

Q: Is the back of the head wide or slim? Need a good hatchet to pound in tent stakes.....
A: I wouldn't recommend using the hatchet to knock in stakes. However the ultimate knife has a hammer like bottom on the bottom of the knife handle.
